Reference & Academic Context (TU / IOE)

This M.Sc. percentage calculator is created for students who want to understand how credit hours and marks obtained combine to produce a final weighted aggregate. It is especially helpful for programs that follow a structured credit system (e.g., coursework + thesis) where the total requirement may be 60 credits.

How to Use the Calculator
  • Add all subjects you completed (coursework + thesis if applicable).
  • Enter credit hours for each subject (default is 4, you can change it anytime).
  • Enter marks obtained (%) for each subject.
  • The calculator updates instantly and shows: percentage, division, totals, and per-subject contribution.

Why credit matters: if one subject is 6 credits and another is 2 credits, the 6-credit subject carries more weight in the final percentage.

Calculation Details (Explained Clearly)

The calculation used is the standard weighted aggregate:

Total Percentage
= Σ(Credit × Marks Obtained) / Σ(Credits)

Example (simple):

Subject Credits Marks Credit × Marks
Course A480320
Course B370210
Thesis675450
Totals980

Final percentage = 980 ÷ (4 + 3 + 6) = 980 ÷ 13 = 75.38%

FAQ (Common Questions)

Yes. You can enter marks for completed subjects first and add remaining subjects later. The calculator updates instantly as you type.

Add a row named Thesis, enter thesis credit hours and marks. The thesis will automatically be included in weighted percentage.

No. This is a browser-based calculator. Your marks and credits remain on your device unless you manually copy/share them.

Distinction is commonly 80% and above. This site treats 65% to below 80% as First Division, so 75%–79.99% becomes First Division. If your program uses a different range, you can easily change the ranges in the JavaScript.
